Lanborg (also Lankhöfuðborg) is the biggest city by planned size of the Thorildsby Project. Lanborgians nowadays usually speak New Lanborgian (Tungmal, Icelandic), but you will occasionally still come across books written in Old Lanborgian (Altsprech, German). Due to most Lanborgians wanting to clean up their very grim past, Old Lanborgian is only used by criminal organisations such as the Lanborgian Nationalist Movement. Before Altsprech, there were also Tribal languages, similar to Occitan. The name of Lanborg comes from «Lançar» in Tribal, meaning «to throw», as the settlers on the main island often fought with bows. Borg comes from castle, as there is a castle planned there.

History

Initial planning

At the end of December 2023, Thorildsby was already a big and prosperous city. Hoping to replicate and expand on Thorildsby's unique building style, Fyndrix and Kat set out to find places where new cities may be constructed. They eventually found an island surrounded by a river about 2km south of Thorildsby. A couple of days later, the Lanborg central station was constructed on a creative world and was later pasted into the map of the Thorildsby project. Fyndrix also built the initial buildings, which would become a template for the Colour district over a year later.

Railway to Thorildsby

On the 7th of January 2024, Fyndrix and Kat wanted to build a railway from Lanborg to Thorildsby. Just a few minutes earlier they updated the Oculus mod. To their horror, when they arrived in Thorildsby a lot of building blocks from the create mod have disappeared from Thorildsby. They did manage to recover the damage with help of a back-up world, but this taught them a lesson to always test all mods and updates before using them. This event is now known as the 7th January Corruption.

District of Colour (Litasveit)

The new district of colour (Litasveit), which is situated right next to the central station, has been built in a series of Livestreams on Fyndrix' youtube channel. Its new and unique historic architectural style makes it a very unique and cozy place for inspiration and hanging out. The district that was situated there before the Fire of Lanborg was made of combustible materials therefore burnt down. Litasveit was built on the place of the old district, implementing new ideas and mentality of architecture.

Future

For the future, Fyndrix and Kat have planned three metro lines, a university north of the island, multiple historic districts on the island and areas of contemporary architecture outside of the island.

Culture

Practicing cultural activities is a controversial topic to many Lanborgians, as their country is most famous for the horrors it caused (War of Dignity). However younger generations refuse to take accountability for the war and try to show the good sides of their history, before the War of Dignity.

Heitare, one of the main dishes of Lanborg and also one of its most famous ones

Cuisine

Lanborgian cuisine is difficult to describe, as it includes a wide range of foods. The cuisine is famous for its use of Høvemark peppers, the national Lanborgian plant, but sun-intense vegetables are also present. This is due to the land of Høvemark being arable warm climates and the country has lots of sunshine hours. The cuisine is also known for its fruity dishes, stews and melons. They are also an important part of Lanborgian Cuisine, Melon Square almost serves as a hotspot of all melon-related foods around the world. Popular dishes include Heitare (peppers with meat), Gúlás (beef stock soup), Gravy Meat and Eggplant Towers. However, drinking is also very popular, with beer being the most famous example. Ranging from very light beer over beer with lemonade or caramel all the way up to the ultra-high alcohol content beers which Lanborg is especially popular for.

Bars and Pubs

Bars and Pubs are an important part of Lanborgian culture, as they were the only place where speech is not punishable, because intoxication could be used as an excuse, until 0Ð. After the occupation of the Lanborg Empire, the Northern Coalition created the Commonwealth, in which freedom of speech was forced. Additionally, during the times of the War of Dignity, working hours were increased to supply the country with more goods, therefore setting the population in emotional distress. To combat the stress, most Lanborgians chose alcohol, in pubs and bars. There they sang and gathered, which also birthed many secret revolutionary forces.

Today, for many Lanborgians, bars and pubs are places to get together and sing songs about war (and war heroes) and are places of Lanborgian cultural identity, this is paired with the fact that many resistance forces were established there.

Raves

Raving and clubbing is a very common thing in Lanborg, as after the War of Dignity most people wanted to live on the countryside because those areas were patrolled less by corrupt government forces, thus housing prices hit rock-bottom. This made houses and apartments a lot cheaper and paired with the lacking freedom of speech and freedom of self-expression during post-War of Dignity, pre-Commonwealth times, and therefore the need of physical expression, first clubs were opened. They were deemed an immediate success, so with more and more experimental clubs came more and more people and styles.

Eventually two seperate types of concerts became popular in the city: The giant rave scene, where mostly electronic and experimental music was played and the way smaller club scene, where all music was played and was the establishments were almost always located indoors.
Raving was seen as a way of anti-government movements by the corrupt government under Einar II and Einar I, so multiple raves have been intorrupted after their quick formation, even with deaths. The total death toll between -48Ð and -9Ð by police violence in response to raves is considered to be around 120. This further fueled the hatred to the government by ravers, which in return wanted bigger raves and weapons. The biggest protest-type-rave was held in -4Ð in occupation by the Northern Coalition. The rave emassed over 350 participants.
In 24Ð, the biggest rave overall took place, with 480 participants.

Today, the raving scene is seen as very developed in Lanborg, where it is common to go to public raves every Saturday and Friday night. There are also sub-genres of these raves, such as Ethno-Electronic, Trance and rarely, Chiptune.

Lore

Early days

The first castle in Lanborg, turned into a public memorial and partially degraded.

In -670Ð Adriel the Great of Lanborg has gained full administrative control over the Hófasviði region. In order to more thoroughly supervise his territory, Adriel the Great erected a castle on an island surrounded by a river. "The river would be an excellent barrier against attacking enemies", so Adriel the Great thought. Lankhöfuðborg i.e. „The castle from where gets thrown“ grew due to its safety compared to other settlements in the Hófasviði region. Over time, it became one of the most important trading hotspots in the region. Just before his passing, Adriel the Great declared that his daughter shall take the throne in Lankhöfuðborg, thus establishing Lanborg's dynasty.

Port city

For a long time Lanborg existed peacefully, eventually passing down the throne to Ari I. In -412Ð he realised that just by building a few canals, Lankhöfuðborg could become an important pit-stop on the route from southern settlements to western Åranian setllements. Many sailors liked being able to buy supplies in Lankhöfuðborg which freed up a lot of space for more cargo. With more and more sailors arriving in Lankhöfuðborg, more people started moving to the town causing an explosion in population and a massive expansion outside of the castle walls until Lankhöfuðborg filled the entire island. What was once just a small administrative castle has turned into one of the most important port cities.

Lost years

The Fire of Lanborg destroying massive parts of the city -98Ð.

From -372Ð up until -98Ð there are barely any surviving records. This is due to big parts of the city going up in flames on -98Ð, destroying massive portions of the city and its archive and essentially erasing a huge chunk of Lanborgian history. However, experts assume that trade continued peacefully during these years, besides potentially a small war in the north against Årania, which would explain some small land gains on Hófasviði's side. We do not know if this war is in any way related to later wars between Hófasviði and Årania.

Ari II

In -96Ð, after his predecessor passed whilst trying to protect Lankhöfuðborg from the fire, Ari II was coronated. Ari II is nowdays known as an irresponsable dictator as he declared minimum sizes for boats, caused three megainflations and he threatened to increase taxes and silenced criticism.
Unexpectedly, Ari II got fatally ill in -81Ð. His last decree was for Einar to start a war against Årania, as Ari II always suspected the Åranians to be responsible for the city and archive burning down.

War against Årania

Following his fathers orders, Einar declared war against Årania in -67Ð. After a few Ð, Åranvik was fully captured
Over the next 18.5Ð after the start of the war, thousands of Åranians were forced to work or killed. However, the Åranvik resistance was planning out an attempt to overthrow the Lanborgian supervisor with support of Thorildhøj and Kalkdui. Nearly all stationed Lanborgian military personnel were killed and Åranvik's supervisor was publicly executed at -48.46Ð. This moment marks the independance of Åranvik.
Årania then took back massive amounts of territory from Hófasviði leading to the borders that we still have between the two regions today.

Treaty of Vesgrot

In Lanborg, many citizens had known that their Empire caused the War of Dignity, due to Reimer's death in -50Ð. However, after the War of Dignity ended with a loss for the Lanborg Empire, Einar II refused to leave the throne. This made many Lanborgians furious, as they hoped for peace and a new government. The Northern Coalition, which fought on the side of Årania, wanted to liberate the country from Einar II, however the emperor said that in case of a full-scale invasion of the Lanborg Empire, he would kill as many innocent citizens of Lanborg as possible, via detonation. Therefore a compromise was made that Einar II was allowed to reign the Lanborg Empire, however all military will be supervised by the Northern Coalition, the government has to be transparent and all borders have to be open (and many more). This became known as the Treaty of Vesgrot and it would be dissolved after 40Ð of its creation, -8.4Ð. Inner resistance movements in the new Empire were established more often, with the increased freedom, but were also dissolved under the Einar II rule, as intervention was illegal.
With the Treaty of Vesgrot running out, the Northern Coalition, made a greater peace proposal about creating a Commonwealth of Nations at around -9Ð. Peace for the rest of the Lanborgians' lives was promised to all Lanborgians that went to the public squares, such as Melon Square and protested while resisting to go away, blocking major nodes in the city. However, Einar II was still against this and punished everyone who protested.

Occupation of the Lanborg Empire

After the Treaty of Vesgrot ran out in -8.4Ð, there was a protest in the capitol of the eastern Lanborg Empire, as the government forces were mostly located in the western city Lanborg and the east has been brutally supressed as it has different culture and ethnics. The protest is considered one with the highest mortality rates ever, with about 40 people dying in two days, so under the legitimation of protecting the protestors, the Northern Coalition occupied the city. The national forces of the Lanborg Empire could not keep up and neither forces reported any losses during the occupation. In the same Ð, the army of the Northern Coalition used the city as a camp site while protecting the rights of the citizens. The Lanborg Empire cut the city off from its supply lines, effectively accepting the loss of the eastern city. In -7Ð, the Northern Coalition also occupied the surrounding rural regions to fight racial suppression, with no resistance from the Lanborg Empire army. The Northern Coalition promised to only take the east of the Lanborg Empire, which was under racial suppression and Einar II agreed only if the Northern Coalition didn’t continue further. During the occupation of the eastern Lanborg Empire by the Northern Coalition, the culture flourished and patriotism was at an all time high as the people had access to full human rights.

Unified Commonwealth

Shortly before 0Ð, hundreds of Lanborgians assembled at Melon Square and other squares, went on their knees and started speaking repeatedly „We hail the Commonwealth, the saving republic.“ Einar II started slaughtering the people who kneeled, but they did not resist as they believed peace would come. And indeed, Fyndrix stepped in and killed Einar II. Following this, the plan of the Commonwealth, which combined all regions into one single government, was brought to life. The creation of the Commonwealth is defined to be exactly at 0Ð. Following this, Fyndrix appointed Kat as chancellor.

Central metro station in Lanborg

Transport

Transport in Lanborg will be heavily developed, with two metro lines and one (or two) light rail lines.

ㅤM1ㅤ: M1 is the historic metro line of Lanborg, which will be running directly north-south from the central station.
The M1 uses long, historic trains which run through massive underground stations with multiple exits. So far, only Lanborg Central is completed as a metro station. It mimicks the design of the T-Centralen station in Stockholm.

University ↔ Lanborg Central ↔ Eastern City Center (transfer to LR) ↔ Valley

ㅤM2ㅤ: M2 is the modern metro of Lanborg running parallel to the M1, on the other side of the main island. Its stations are closer to ground level and have platform doors. Additionally, they have smaller trains which do stops more frequently than the M1. So far, only the expo station is built, which is considered to be a marvel of engineering, as the station had very limited space: On one side, there was the Lanborg Canal, on the other there was another railway tunnel, below was a railway tunnel and above was a historic district. This explains the very unique design of the station.

Modern District ↔ Expo Center ↔ Western Canal (transfer to LR) ↔ Castle

ㅤLRㅤ: The LR (name is temporary) will be the a light rail line in Lanborg. It will run perpendicular to M1 and M2 and will effectively cut through the city center. Potentially, the light rail will have a slow section in the city center, where passengers can enter the train as it is running by itself.

Western District 1 ↔ Western District 2 ↔ Western Canal (transfer to M2) ↔ City Center ↔ Eastern City Center (transfer to M1)Åranian exclave

Notable People

Lanborg has produced some important people in history and modern media except for politicians.

Erich Reimer

Reimer in his apartment in Lanborg, -54Ð.

Erich Reimer is considered to be one of the most influencial inventors of his time, with his peak of carriere being in -52Ð. He is famous for inventing the harvesting of thermal energy from the planet's core, which is now used as energy generation everywhere. This invention was kept a secret, as during the unsuccsesful testing a massive earthquake was caused. As an inventor, he had close ties to the government, which during the War of Dignity he lived in, had a bad reputation and conspiracy theories about starting the war (which turned out to be correct). He knew his invention would be used for the destruction of thousands of lives, so Reimer commited suicide and painted a new image of the government, as he published top secret military documents on the day of the suicide. This lead to massive protests, which were then quickly solved using violence - therefore spreading awareness of a totalitarian regime.
We know this valuable information through his diary and documents buried near Straskur - the location of them was revealed by his brother after the downfall of Einar II, at 0Ð.
After the documents' publication, inventors from around the then new Commonwealth improved Reimer's design and made it much safer.

TRULAUS

Ezechiel Lantou is a rapper from Lanborg born in -8Ð. He is most known for his album "To pimp a pigeon", which portrays generational trauma of racism against rural Lanborgians (Tribale) and his collaboration with the Lanborg University for a science exhibition, paired with a album release. His songs are mainly in English, a mix of the Commonwealth's Anglish and multiple tribal languages.
He has also amassed a large international following, touring the Commonwealth and its capitols multiple times, as well as cooperating with many international artists. Back in his home city Lanborg, he was very present in the Rave scene.
