Lanborg (also Lankhöfuðborg) is the biggest city by planned size of the Thorildsby Project. Lanborgians nowadays usually speak New Lanborgian (Nýtt tungumál, Icelandic), but you will occasionally still come across books written in Old Lanborgian (Altsprech, German). Due to most Lanborgians wanting to clean up their very grim past, Old Lanborgian is only used by criminal organisations such as the Lanborgian Nationalist Movement. Before Altsprech, there were also Tribal languages, similar to Occitan. The name of Lanborg comes from «Lançar» in Tribal, meaning «to throw», as the settlers on the main island often fought with bows. Borg comes from castle, as there is a castle planned there.

History

Initial planning

At the end of December 2023, Thorildsby was already a big and prosperous city. Hoping to replicate and expand on Thorildsby's unique building style, Fyndrix and Cat set out to find places where new cities may be constructed. They eventually found an island surrounded by a river about 2km south of Thorildsby. A couple of days later, the Lanborg central station was constructed on a creative world an the later pasted into the map of the Thorildsby project. Fnydrix also built the initial buildings, which would become a template for the Colour district over a year later.

Railway to Thorildsby

On the 7th of January 2024, Fnydrix and Cat wanted to build a railway from Lanborg to Thorildsby. Just a few minutes earlier they updated the Oculus mod. To their horror, when they arrived in Thorildsby a lot of building blocks from the create mod have disappeared from Thorildsby. They did manage to recover the damage with help of a back-up world, but this taught them a lesson to always test all mods and updates before using them. This event is now known as the 7th January Corruption.

District of Colour

The new district of colour, which is situated right next to the central station, has been built in a series of Livestreams on Fyndrix's and Cat's youtube channels. It's new and unique historic architectural style makes it a very cozy place for inspiration or just hanging out.

Future

For the future Fyndrix and Cat have planned three metro lines, a university north of the island, multiple historic districts on the island and areas of contemporary architecture outside of the island.

Lore

Eearly days

In -670Ð Cat I of Lanborg has recently gained full administrative control over the Hófasviði region. In order to more thoroughly supervise his territory, Cat I erect a castle on an island surrounded by a river. The river would be an excellent barrier against attacking enemies, so Cat I thought. Lankhöfuðborg i.e. „The castle from which gets thrown“ grew due to its safety compared to other settlements in the Hófasviði region. Over time, it became one of the most important trading hotspots in the region. Just before his passing, Cat I declared that his daughter shall take the thrown in Lankhöfuðborg, thus establishing Lanborg's dynasty.

Port city

For a long time Lanborg existed peacefully, eventually passing down the throne to Cat IV. In -412Ð he realised that just by building a few canals, Lankhöfuðborg could become an important pit-stop on the route from Kalkdui to western Åranian setllements. Many sailors liked being able to buy supplies in Lankhöfuðborg which freed up a lot of space for more cargo. With more and more sailors arriving in Lankhöfuðborg, more people started moving to the town causing an explosion in population and a massive expansion outside of the castle walls until Lankhöfuðborg filled the entire island. What was once just a small administrative castle has turned into one of the most important port cities.

Lost years

From -372Ð up until -120Ð there are barely any surviving records. This is to the city archive going up in flames on -120Ð, destroying massive portions of the archive and essentially erasing a huge chunk of Lanborgian history. However, experts assume that trade continued peacefully during these years besides potentially a small wall in the north against Årania which would explain some small land gains on Hófasviði's side. We do not know if this war is in any way related to later wars between Hófasviði and Årania.

Cat XII

In -120Ð, after his predecessor passed whilst trying to protect Lankhöfuðborg from the archive-fire, Cat XII was coronated. Cat XII is nowdays mainly known as a mad person. Just to name some examples, he declared minimum sizes for boats, he caused three megainflations and he threatened to bump up taxes, if someone said something „mean“.
Suddenly, Cat XII got fatally ill in -109Ð. His last decree was for Cat XIII to start a war against Åranvik, as Cat XII always suspected the Åranians to be responsible for the archive burning down.

War against Åranvik

Following his fathers orders, Cat XIII declared war against Åranvik in -99Ð. After just a few days Åranvik surrendered.
Over the next 41Ð thousands of Åranians were forced to work or killed. Most traces of this time only exist as artifacts or in some very faint memories. However, the Åranvik resistance was cooking up an attempt to overthrow the Lanborgian supervisor. Nearly all stationed Lanborgian military personnel were killed and Åranvik's supervisor was publicly executed at -48.46Ð. This moment marks the independance of Åranvik.
Årania then took back massive amounts of territory from Hófasviði leading to the borders that we still have between the two regions today.

Aftermath of the occupation

Back in Lanborg, many Lanborgians were completely oblivious to the horrors that happened in Åranvik. So when Åranians forced the king to tell the Lanborgians everything, many people were insanely unhappy with their emporer. They have been repeatedly lied to for a long time now. Inner resistance movements were established, but those were quickly dissolved. It took until a new leader, Fyndrix, appeared out of the sky at around -9Ð. Fyndrix promised all Lanborgians that bowed before him peace for the rest of their lives, but Cat XIII was still against this and punished everyone who worshipped Fyndrix.

Unified Commonwealth

Shortly before 0Ð, hundreds of Lanborgians assembled at Melon Square, went on their knees and started speaking repeatedly „We hail Fnydrix, our mighty saviour.“ Cat XIII started slaughtering the people who kneeled, but they did not resist as they believed Fyndrix would help them. And indeed, Fyndrix stepped in and killed Cat XIII. Following this, he created the Unified Commonwealth which combined all regions into one single government for all people to live peacefully together. The creation of the Commonwealth is defined to be exactly at 0Ð.
