Åranian is the national language of Årania, with minority speakers in Thorildhøj. The language evolved from old Thorildsk, which was spoken in the areas of modern Årania and Thorildhøj. Old Thorildsk turned into modern Thorildsk and Åranian over time, with the main difference being Åranian leaving out many silent letters in contrast to Thorildsk which kept all letters. Both languages are mutually intelligible. Åranian has different phonetics to Thorildsk: The letter "r" as a rolling sound and all vocals are prounced accurately to their writing. This is not the case in Thorildsk.
Åranian, just as Thorildsk, is based on Danish.
Evolution of the language
The first written proof of Åranian as a language dates back to -120Ð, where silent letters were purposefully left out of Old Thorildsk scripts. As much of the population focused on farming and was not taught to write, they adapted to this new writing style. This created two versions of Old Thorildsk, one considered educational and one peasant-like. This changed during the Yellow Revolution, when the monarch was killed and Årania became an independent democracy.
